Aleppo is one of the oldest cities in the world that may have been inhabited since the 6th millennium BC. The city was occupied by Amorites since the 3rd millennium BC and was mentioned in cuneiform tablets from Mesopotamia.
For centuries, Aleppo was the largest city in the Syria and its significance in history has been its location at one end of the Silk Road which passed through central Asia and Mesopotamia
