This scarf was created in memory of Mahsa Amini and the global women's movement she inspired. On September 13, 2022, a 22- year-old Jina “Mahsa” Amini, of Saqqez, was arrested by Iran’s morality police for “improperly” wearing her hijab. According to her family and local media, she was severely beaten, went into a coma and died three days later while still in police custody. After reports of the horrific incident emerged, thanks in part to reporters Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, (who were later arrested), protests erupted across Iran. They were led by women who tore off their hijabs, cut their hair and adopted a rallying cry of “women, life, freedom.”

In 2022, 100% of proceeds from the sale of this scarf was donated to Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch in Iran.

In 2023, 20% of the proceeds will be donated to Center for Human Rights in Iran for the one-year anniversary of the woman Life Freedom in Mahsa Amini's memory.
